MAIDEN HIGH COURT HERAING HELD IN NORTH EAST REGION.
Presiding over the inaugural sitting of the North East Regional High Court on the 30th of October, 2023, His Lordship, Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah, also the Supervising High Court Judge of the Judicial Jurisdictions in the Regions of the North, in his introductory remarks underscored the imperativeness of the establishment of a Superior Court of Judicature in the newly created North East Region.
He added that court-related cases were, hitherto, heard in the Northern Region, which is 167.1km (2hrs 52 min by bus), a journey which potentially has dire security, social and financial implications in the expedition of administration of justice.
Administration/Dispensation of Justice is now at the doorsteps of citizens of the region.
Two cases were heard and the individuals or suspects involved in these alleged criminally related cases were granted their pleas to go back and properly arrange for legal representation pending the substantive hearings.
Present at the inaugural sitting of the court to observe proceedings were the Regional Minister, Hon. Yidana Zakaria, the Municipal Chief Executive of East Mamprusi Municipal, Hon. Rasheeda Mahama, in whose Municipality the court is located, and sympathisers of the accused and a few Regional Heads of Departments.
