NORTH EAST REGION EMBARKS ON SOCIAL CAMPAIGN TO END CHILD MARRIAGE.

The above indicated Region set about a social campaign to end child marriage in the Region, by visiting certain selected communities such as Gaagbini, Sayoo, Bouduri, and Banawa in the West Mamprusi Municipal, Loagri,Kuba,Prima and Yagaba in Mamprugu Moagduri District and Najong No.1, Paknatik,Toojing,Kpintaoung and Nanyier in Bunkpurugu/Nakpanduri District.
The team formed to spearhead the campaign-drive was drawn from the Centre for National Culture, Information Services Department, National Commission for Civic Education, Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice and the Ghana Police Service.
At every point of engagement with Community Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and community members, the team underscored that the 1992 constitution, the supreme law of the the country, guarantee’s the rights of children under the Children’s Act of 1998 and therefore any Ghanaian prosecuted and convicted of those provisions under the law will face the full rigours of the law.
The campaign was carried out in drama performances, a very powerful and impactful tool in effective public education/sensitisaton as against solely communicating verbally. It conveys vividness or memorability which sinks well into the psyche of its audience and drives home a better understanding of the issues to be learnt to guide responsible lifestyles.
