NORTH EAST REGION HOLDS ITS OBLIGATORY COUNCIL MEETING.
In the pursuance of the Local Governance Act 2016, Act 936, section 191, the North East Regional Coordinating council (NERCC) executed its obligation by holding its RCC meeting on the 2nd of November 2023 at its Conference Hall.
The meeting essentially was to take stock of progress made so far, of the targeted development goals or agenda of the Region and chart strategies or proffer solutions to addressing challenges that hindered the realisation of the development objectives and targets of the Region within the period under review, so as to achieve the Region’s Annual Action Plans.
Members at the occasion comprised the Regional Minister, Hon. Yidana Zakaria, who chaired the occasion, Mr. Mensah Andrews, the Chief Director and who doubles as secretary to the Council, Presiding Members in the Region and Municipal and District Chief Executives of the six constituent administrative districts of the Region and their Coordinating Directors.
Other Attendees were Representatives from the Regional House of Chiefs and the Mamprugu Traditional Council, Regional Heads of various Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Institutions, Security Service Commanders. and some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs). Municipal and District Chief Executives took turns to do presentations on the state of affairs of some critical sectors in their various jurisdictions ranging from Security to socioeconomic and education issues.
Issues about poor Sanitation, the need to improve the Road network to facilitate easy access to the regional capital for ease of socioeconomic transactions or business were discussed.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Yidana Zakaria, in his closing remarks, expressed commendations to all staff of the RCC for their various efforts and contributions towards the accelerated development of the Region, so as to equitably bridge the development gap between our newly created region and the older ones. He expressed optimism that, with the caliber of staff at the disposal of the RCC, though inadequate, and their devotion and commitment so manifesting, the Region will be ahead of its peers in development.
