NORTH EAST REGION RECEIVES THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO GHANA.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency, Harriet Thompson, paid a one day working visit to the North East Region on Thursday 24th August,2023. Her Excellency, together with her retinue comprising Messrs Paul Edwards, the Northern Ghana Attache, Abraham Agoni, Political Officer for the Regions of the North at the High Commission, Ernest Manu, Communications Manager and Cyril Otabil, Content Producer also both at the High Commission, called on the Regional Minister, Hon. Yidana Zakaria, at his office at the Regional Coordinating council in Nalerigu, where she was warmly received.

Her Excellency’s visit was to gain first-hand knowledge on the varied and peculiar predicaments of the region such as the increasingly worsening devastative effects of the perennial floods on the socioeconomic lives of the Region and also to explore investment opportunities that Britain can partner with the region to develop. To that effect power point presentations were made, substantially touching on the economic and investment potentials of the Region which will be mutually beneficial to investors and the region and also spur the accelerated development of the Region.

The Hon. Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, added that the perennial devastating effects of floods, causing the loss of lives, properties and livelihoods in the region will be a thing of the past after the completion of the PWALUGU MULTI- PURPOSE PROJECT, a game changer, which will serve as a reservoir for floods to provide irrigation water to agricultural lands which are being lost to uncontrollable floods.

He acknowledged the strong bond between Ghana and Great Britain and lauded the High Commissioner’s approach of a bottom-top approach on development engagements to learn at first-hand what very relevant partnership and developmental Enterprises to give priorities to achieve very meaningfully impacting interventions to the targeted beneficiaries.

The British High Commissioner later paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga at his Palace. After being briefed on her mission in the region, His Majesty, the Overlord gave his blessing to the High Commissioner and the country she represents in the quest to help accelerate development in the region and assured full cooperation in achieving the cooperative objectives.
