PRESIDENT NANA AKUFO-ADDO’s NATIONWIDE WELFARE TOUR – NORTH EAST REGION OF GHANA.
His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, paid a farewell visit to the North East Region on the 14th October, 2024, as part of a nationwide tour and gesture to express profound gratitude to the Region and Ghanaians as a whole for keeping faith with his Administration through periods of thick and thin within his tenure, which largely and significantly has helped realised his manifesto promises.
On arrival, President Nana Addo paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga at his Palace, where he announced to His Majesty the purpose of his visit.
A durbar was held in connection with the above, where participants were drawn from the general public comprising Traditional and Faith-based leaders, Political Party leaders and functionaries, including the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Baba, Regional Heads of various Departments and Agencies, the constituent Municipals and Districts Chief Executives of the North East Region and their Coordinating Directors, the Media and other members of the general public, such as the CSOs and NGOs.
President Nana Addo in his speech at the main conference Hall of the Regional Coordinating Council, after acquainting his audience with the purpose behind his tour, His Excellency, President Nana Addo took time to enumerate some achievements of his administration citing Free SHS, which has enrolled a lot more students in schools and reducing the financial strain on parents, improving the literacy base and skills of the teeming youth population enhancing national development by equipping them with employable opportunities.
In the light of this vision, the Region has benefited from the construction of a model school which offers a range of academic programmes tailored to keep with modern trends by churning out relevant products to drive the country’s space in global competitiveness.
In addition to some of the share of benefits the Region has had its coveted commissioning of the North East Region’s Integrated Recycling and Composting Plant which is established to solve Sanitation problems and also provide job opportunities.
He also touched on the rice storage facility in Mamprugu Moagduri District, which is reputed in producing large amounts of cereals for commercial and local consumption.
He also mentioned about the road constructions that the Region has benefited in his administration.
His Excellency reiterated his appeal to retain the NPP in power.
The Hon. Regional Minister Yidana Zakaria, in his opening remarks commended Attendees for comming in their large numbers to warmly receive the first gentleman of the country, who has been very keen on the development of the Region and has taken very determined steps for the Region to have its fair share of the national cake in the face of scarce resources notwithstanding.
He added that the NPP as a competitor in the upcoming General elections has a lot more to add to the development gains of the region when elected, thus accelerating and closing the developmental gaps between the newly created and the older Regions to realise equitable growth and development nationwide.
He thanked the President for giving him the opportunity to serve his people under his term of Office as President.
He wished the President the best in his next endeavours in life after his tenure expires and expressed conviction that Ghanaians will ever miss him and be grateful for his visionary leadership. He has taken bold decisions that have weathered the storm.
