COMMISSIONING OF RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING PLANT IN NORTH EAST REGION.

An integrated Recycling and Composting plant was commissioned in the North East Region on the 4th October, 2024, with the objective of addressing the pressing issues of poor waste management in the Region and the country by extension. The meeting was organised collaboratively by Zoomlion Ghana, North East Regional Coordinating Council and the Sanitation Ministry of Ghana.

This project idea was birthed by H.E President Nana Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, which aims at establishing an advanced facility of waste management, enabling a waste management capacity of 400 tonnes of solid waste per day, offering a contemporary and sustainable solution to the waste management challenges confronting the Region and the nation by extension. The integrated Recycling and Composting plant represents a pinnacle waste management infrastructure, harnessing state -of-the-art technology to convert waste into valuable resources.

In his welcome address, the Regional Minister of North East Region, Hon. Yidana Zakaria, encouraged all Attendees at the programme, to trumpet the idea and concept behind the establishment of the plant to their various communities, so as to promote the desired goals and functionality of the facility. He added that the facility will provide job opportunities and prosperity and Environmental protection solutions, which eventually inures to good health and livelihood.

In a speech read on behalf of Chief Executive Officer of the Jospon Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Ayepong, gratitude was expressed to Government for its demonstrable commitment to rope in the private sector to solve the critical countrywide problems to the benefit of the citizens. He added that the JOSPON GROUP OF COMPANIES has collaborated over the years in many areas of development solutions and said that their doors are still open for an expansion of collaboration.

The lead Representative of the delegation from the Palace of the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo’s Government for siting the facility in the North East Region, in the mist of several competing interests in the country.
He encouraged the local authorities to ensure that the facility functions successfully,sustainably and appropriately.

The Chairman for the occasion, Sagagugu Naba underscored the huge potential of the plant to boost agricultural productivity, enhance good sanitation and make the teeming youth idleless, hence drastically reducing criminal and social vices and rather improving social lives. He noted that all the positive expectations that come with the establishment of the plant will be derailed if peace is not maintained.

Gathered at the occasion were Municipal and District Chief Executives, Regional Heads of Departments, Security Services Commanders, Traditional and Religious leaders, Civil Society Organisations, Business Owners and other members of the General public.
